Nous Enterrerons nos Cils
Montreal, 2020Site-specific Performance with Laurence Beaudoin-Morin
As soon as the developer group Olymbec acquired the former public space known as the 'parc des Gorilles' in 2013, they cut down its 50 trees in view of property development. Before the city bought back the land, the promoters garnished the site with gravel to cover up their crime. Shovelling the gravel away and piling it close to the street was done to raise awareness about the historic loss of biodiversity on this urban lot while also activating the ground for future growth. The repetitive linear movement in the space resonates with the motion of labour on agricultural fields.
